Asphalt paving is the process of laying a durable, smooth and flexible surface using a mixture of aggregates (such as crushed stone, sand and gravel), and a binder like (liquid asphalt or bitumen). It’s commonly used for driveways, roads, and parking lots. The hot mixture (usually around 300°F) is transported to the site, poured or laid by specialized paving machines, and heavily rolled to eliminate any air pockets and ensure complete uniformity. When properly installed asphalt can last 15 to 25 years. It’s also very easy to repair and maintain through techniques like patching and resurfacing overlays. It’s flexible, meaning it can withstand heavy vehicle loads and adapt to shifting soil or varying weather conditions.

Acting like a sunscreen, seal coating shields the pavement from UV rays, oil spills, and harsh weather. It prevents the asphalt from becoming brittle and cracking. What’s Tar & Chip?
Tar and Chip (also called Chip Seal) is a paving method where we mix hot liquid asphalt with loose crushed stones. We then spread the hot liquid asphalt over a base, cover it with gravel, and roll it flat. It’s very affordable, offers a rustic look and the rough texture provides excellent grip, making it a safe option for steep inclines or rural roads. Unlike standard asphalt, which requires periodic sealcoating to prevent cracking, tar-and-chip is virtually maintenance-free. It’s best suited for roads and driveways with moderate to low traffic. Many homeowners choose chip seal for properties with long driveways, because it’s significantly more affordable than a traditional asphalt overlay.
